With the effects of the Daylight Saving Time switch lasting a week or more, a 5ml stock bottle will make it easier to get going on the dark mornings.
This essential oil diffuser blend is safe for the entire family. Just add 8-10 drops per 100ml water to your diffuser first thing in the morning to help everyone get off on the right foot.
Get Stock Bottle Drop Counts
Here are the drop counts for a 5ml essential oil bottle. This will hold about 100 drops of essential oil (depending on the viscosity of the oil and the size of the reducer orifice).
Add your drops directly to the essential oil bottle. Then insert the reducer and cap tightly. Finally roll the bottle between the palms of your hands for at least 30 seconds. This allows the oils to fully blend with each other and it imparts a bit of your energy to the blend.
And remember: Affix a label right away!
Yawn Away Stock Bottle Drop Counts
- 44 drops Lemon essential oil (Citrus x limon)*
- 33 drops Sweet Basil essential oil (Ocimum basilicum)
- 22 drops Spearmint essential oil (Mentha spicata)
*Or 22 drops Lemon & 22 drops distilled Lime (Citrus x aurantifolia).
About the Essential Oil Blend
Aromatics have been used for centuries to invigorate the senses and promote a sense of alertness and energy. When inhaled through the nose, the volatile constituents in essential oils interact directly with our limbic system. This interaction can impact our mood, emotions, mental clarity, and ability to focus.
Lemon (Citrus x limon): The bright, zesty aroma of Lemon essential oil is known for its mood-boosting properties. Its energy cleansing nature can help combat tiredness, enhance positivity, and promote a sense of vitality.
Distilled Lime (Citrus x aurantifolia): Juicy, and tart, distilled Lime essential oil is energizing and promotes a brightness in spirit. Why distilled? Cold pressed Lime can cause photosensitivity when applied to the skin. Distilled Lime essential oil will not. So, just to be safe, I always recommend and use distilled Lime.
Sweet Basil (Ocimum basilicum): With a warm, sometimes clove-like aroma, Sweet Basil essential oil is gentle and uplifting. It’s second only to Rosemary essential oil for enhancing mental presence, making it an excellent addition to a morning essential oil blend.
Spearmint (Mentha spicata): With a softer aroma than Peppermint, Spearmint essential oil is known for its ability to decrease fatigue and increase focus. Its cool, minty aroma has an energy revitalizing effect.
With all of these wonderful, gently energizing properties, Yawn Away is a regular in my morning essential oil diffuser blend line up throughout the year.
A vent diffuser makes it easy to take your favorite energizing essential oil blend on the road with you. In fact, a recent study showed that Peppermint essential oil can help reduce road aggression!(1)

Morning Candlelight
Another way to bring a little warm light into the dark mornings of early Daylight Saving Time is a candle. I prefer plain ol’ beeswax candles so there’s no conflicting fragrance, just the soft, warm honey-like aroma of the melting beeswax.
They are super simple to make, too! My beeswax candle recipe uses just pure beeswax and coconut oil to produce a lovely flame and soft unobtrusive aroma. Handcrafting candles is a favorite family activity in our home. Give candle-making a try!
Not up for crafting your own? These are my favorite unscented natural beeswax votives.
So, in the coming days, we’ll be diffusing Yawn Away in our main diffuser, enjoying candlelight with breakfast, and adding a drop of Peppermint essential oil to our vent diffusers!
