About Lavandin Grapefruit Duet
This unpretentious essential oil pairing is rich in stress-reducing d-limonene and calming linalool and linalyl acetate for relaxed yet uplifted energy. The touch of camphor and 1,8-cineole in the Lavandin encourages deep breathing.

However, the beauty of this duo is that both work beautifully together and in concert with a wide variety of essential oils. This allows you to be as creative as you want in formulating numerous blends with an array of intentions!

☀️Essential Oil Spotlight: Lavandin: 1 + 1 = X
Lavandin (Lavandula x intermedia) is a species of Lavender that’s a cross between true Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and Spike Lavender (Lavandula latifolia). The “x” in the botanical name indicates a hybrid.
When true Lavender and Spike Lavender are cultivated near each other, Lavandin grows naturally between the two. True Lavender grows best at high cool elevation, while Spike Lavender prefers a warmer lower elevation. Lavandin grows very happily at the border. (Can you see where the “intermedia” in its name comes from?)
We can thank the busy bees for creating this beautiful Lavender hybrid.
The herbaceous, sweet, clean aroma of Lavandin essential oil brings together the best of true and Spike Lavender!
Here’s something that will bake your noodle: You’ll notice the same “x” in Grapefruit’s botanical name, Citrus x paradisi. This is because it is a hybrid of the Pomelo (Citrus maxima) and the Sweet Orange (Citrus x sinensis). But wait, there’s also an “x” in Sweet Orange’s botanical name! That’s because it, too is a hybrid. It’s a hybrid of the Pomelo and the Mandarin (Citrus reticulata).
☀️Research Spotlight: Grapefruit and Warfarin
Very common on the herbal supplement market, Grapefruit contains furanocoumarins which have been shown to potentiate (enhance) the blood thinning effect of the anti-coagulant warfarin. It’s important to note that this increased anti-coagulant effect was observed in people taking an ORAL grapefruit dietary supplement (or juice) while on warfarin.(1)
This same effect is unlikely with inhaled or topical application of Grapefruit essential oil. This is because the primary furanocoumarin responsible for the anti-clotting effect is not present in the essential oil. The furanocoumarins that are present in Grapefruit essential oil occur in such small quantities that they are unlikely to impact blood clotting.(2)
