The Summer Solstice: An Astronomical Perspective

Astronomically, the Summer Solstice marks the official start of Summer and is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. It happens when the Earth’s North Pole is tilted closest to the Sun, causing the Sun to reach its highest point in the sky at noon. At this moment, the Sun appears directly overhead at the Tropic of Cancer (23.5°N latitude).[2]
The word “solstice” comes from the Latin sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still), reflecting how the Sun’s apparent movement pauses before reversing direction.[2]
This year the Summer Solstice occurs on June 20th at 10:42pm EDT (June 21st, 2:42am GMT).
The Summer Solstice: An Energetic Perspective
Energetically, the Summer Solstice is often seen as a time of vibrant energy, abundance, and outward expression. The extended daylight hours symbolize illumination, growth, and the full blossoming of potential. It’s a period to celebrate achievements, harness creative energy, and engage with the world in a dynamic way.
For a month or two following the solstice, the northern hemisphere will become warmer as the water and land absorb and store the heat from the Summer Sun. This is called “seasonal lag.” Energetically, this is a time of growth. As Nature takes in the sunshine, fruits, herbs, and grasses ripen. We can follow suit, allowing this time of energetic expansion to inspire creativity and action.
The Summer Solstice: A Spiritual Perspective
Many spiritual traditions view the Summer Solstice as a moment for personal reflection, empowerment, and renewal. It’s a time to honor the light within ourselves, set intentions for the coming months, and celebrate growth. The solstice encourages us to pause, appreciate our journey, and nurture the seeds of intention planted earlier in the year.

Stock Bottle Drop Counts
Here are the drop counts for a 5ml essential oil bottle. This will hold about 100 drops of essential oil (depending on the viscosity of the oil and the size of the reducer orifice).
Add your drops directly to the essential oil bottle. Then insert the reducer and cap tightly. Rock the bottle several times. And, lastly roll the bottle between the palms of your hands for at least 30 seconds. This allows the oils to fully blend with each other and it imparts a bit of your energy to the blend.
And remember: Affix a label right away!
