A Hand & Body Lotion for New Moon Beginnings
As a creature of the desert, one would think Scorpio is a Fire sign. However, like a deep ocean, Scorpio is a Water sign with much hidden beneath the surface. And like the complex Scorpio, this nourishing New Moon Hand and Body Lotion blend is more than it appears.

Finding Inspiration in the New Moon
New Moons mark the beginning of the lunar cycle. They also mark new beginnings for us. New skills and knowledge. New aspirations and focus. New personal and spiritual connections.
Today is the New Moon in Scorpio, so I thought I’d share a body lotion that’s more than just a skin nourishing lotion. Scorpio’s New Moon hand and body lotion supports exploring the deeper parts of ourselves. It helps us explore the mysteries of our souls.
⭐️New Moon Hand & Body Lotion Recipe
- 2 oz (56g) Fragrance-Free Lotion or Favorite Base
- 3 drops Vetiver essential oil (Vetiveria zizanioides)
- 3 drops Copaiba oleoresin (Copaifera officinalis)
- 2 drops Douglas Fir essential oil (Pseudotsuga menziensii)
- 2 drops Blood Orange essential oil (Citrus x sinensis sanguinelli)
- 2 drops Black Pepper essential oil (Piper nigrum)
- Optional: 1 drop Rose Absolute (Rosa spp.) OR 1 drop Sandalwood essential Oil (Santalum spp.)

Why These Ingredients?
The base you choose is up to you! Your favorite fragrance-free body lotion is an easy option. A rich, creamy, whipped body butter is another option. Or if you want to create a body oil a Vanilla infused Jojoba adds a lovely grounding aroma or try the blend of skin nourishing oils in my light after bath body oil.
The 12-13 drops of essential oil we’ve used in our 2 ounce of base creates a 1% dilution of essential oil. This is a safe level to use as desired through the day. If you’d like to reduce the concentration of essential oil for an even lighter aroma, add an additional 1/2 to 1 ounce body lotion (or chosen base). If you’d like a stronger aroma you can reduce the lotion to 1 1/2 or 1 ounce.
Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides)
The aroma of Vetiver essential oil is mysterious and complex. Damp and earthy, with a touch of sweet muskiness, Vetiver cools an overheated spirit. Vetiver essential oil is distilled from the roots. As the roots nourish the plant, this thick, rich oil is gentle, cooling, and nourishing to the skin.
More than meets the eye, grounding Vetiver is also uplifting. It does this, not like a cheerful citrus oil, but rather through replenishing our energy and strengthening our spirit.[1]
Pro Tip: Use a disposable pipette to dispense Vetiver essential oil. It’s viscosity makes it difficult to dispense through the essential oil reducer top (unless you have an extraordinary patient temperament!). Then keep the pipette in a cup or vase to act as a passive diffuser.
Copaiba oleoresin (Copaifera officinalis)

Extracted from a tree native to the rain forests of Brazil, Copaiba oleoresin has a creamy, sweet, resinous aroma. It’s energetically grounding and calming.
Copaiba is rich β-caryophyllene, an unusual phytochemical (plant chemical) that binds with CB2 cannabinoid receptors. This enhances Copaiba’s ability to reduce inflammation, pain, and oxidative stress.[2]
When creating a topical blend, like this body lotion, choose Copaiba oleoresin, which is tapped directly from the tree, over the distilled essential oil. The oleoresin is soothing and cooling to the skin. Topical application can reduce skin inflammation and discomfort.
Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziensii)

Like all conifer essential oils, Douglas Fir supports the respiratory system by encouraging deeper breathing. This cleansing, opening of the breath helps release tension and stress.
However, the aroma of Douglas Fir is unusual among conifer essential oils. It has a complex, fresh, piney, fruity aroma, somewhat like citrus and pineapple. Like a citrus essential oil, Douglas Fir is cheerful, uplifting, and invigorating.
These restorative properties make Douglas Fir a beautiful essential oil for supporting new beginnings.
Blood Orange (Citrus x sinensis sanguinelli)

Juicy Blood Orange essential oil works alongside Douglas Fir to cleanse and uplift the spirit. Richer and more complex than Sweet Orange, Blood Orange opens the soul to deeper connections. It helps reduce fatigue and tension.
Rich in antioxidants, Blood Orange essential oil helps fight free radical damage, oxidative stress, and inflammation.[3] When used topically in a body lotion, butter, or oil, skin-safe citrus essential oils, like Blood Orange, can support healthier glowing skin.
Black Pepper (Piper nigrum)
Black Pepper essential oil adds a touch of warmth and spice, enhancing the aromatic complexity of this body lotion.
Like Scorpio, Black Pepper is more than meets the eye. Black Pepper, with its spicy aroma, seems like it should be hot on the skin. However, Black Pepper is another essential oil rich in the unusual β-caryophyllene. This means it’s skin friendly and works well with Copaiba oleoresin to support skin health.
The Optional Essential Oils
Both Rose Absolute (Rosa spp.) and Sandalwood (Santalum spp.) essential oil are wonderfully nourishing to the skin and the psyche. I am providing these two options because both have incredibly complex aromas and can provide a feminine or masculine note to the blend.
