How to Make Moon Water

Moon Water is simply water that has been charged by the energy of the full moon, turning it into a beautiful, potent source of positive energy that you can incorporate into daily life. Preparing the water the day of the full moon can become a simple monthly meditative practice.

What You’ll Need

  • A glass container. A clear jug with a lid is ideal. Clear glass allows the moon’s energy to pass into the water easily and a lid keeps any nosy bugs out. I use this 2 quart mason jar pitcher.
  • Water. Use the best water you have easy access to. It doesn’t have to be distilled. Filtered is great and tap is fine, too.
  • Intentions. This is a crucial ingredient! Take a moment to think about what you want to draw into you life in the next month. Where do you want illumination? Clarity, healing, inspiration, abundance, and peace are common intentions.
  • Crystals (optional). If you charge your crystals under the full moon, nestle them around the base of the jug. Now, I don’t know much about crystals, but I do know they benefit from a full moon cleansing and that they can amplify energy and intentions (perfect for making Moon Water).

The Simple Process

  1. Clean the jug. Starting with a clean jug is key. Wash in hot soapy water and rinse well. If you wish, you can pass the jug through incense smoke or diffused Frankincense essential oil.
  2. Set your intention. As you wash the jar and then fill it with fresh water, clearly state aloud or think about your intention. For example, you might say, “May the moon infuse this water with positive energy and inspiration.” (More suggestions in the Moon Water Magic printable.)
  3. Charge the water. Once the sun has set, place your sealed jar outside or on a windowsill where it can receive direct moonlight. And if it’s cloudy, don’t worry, the moon’s energy is still present.
  4. Retrieve the water. Before the sun rises, bring the jar inside. The intention is to charge the water only with the moon’s energy, not solar energy, which carries a different vibration.
  5. Store the water. It’s best to store your jug in the refrigerator.

How to Use Your Moon Water: A Daily Ritual

Now that you have your beautifully charged Moon Water, you can begin the daily practice that transforms a simple sip of water into a moment of mindfulness. My personal morning ritual is simple, yet deeply fulfilling.

Every morning:

  1. Pour about an ounce into a small cup reserved for your Moon Water—I use a small white porcelain Japanese tea cup. It’s not about the amount you drink, it’s about the energy each sip contains.
  2. Thank the Universe and the Moon for sharing their energies and providing guidance for the day ahead.
  3. Reaffirm the intention you set for this month’s Moon Water.
  4. Sip the water slowly and mindfully, feeling the moon charged water awakening and cleansing your energy.

This small 2-minute morning ritual sets a tone of gratitude, intention, and energized calm to carry you through even the busiest of days. And remember, with 2 quarts of Moon Water you will have enough to begin and end your day with this ritual if you wish.

Extra Moon Water?

With 2 quarts of Moon Water you will likely have some leftover on the day of the next full moon. Don’t let that energy go to waste! Here are some ways to make use of “extra” Moon Water.

  • Share it with your pets. Simply add a small amount to a clean bowl of fresh water.
  • Give some to your plants. Even if it’s less than an ounce per plant, I like to give my plants a little sip of Moon Water each month.
  • Make an herbal tea. This Better Than Basic Chamomile Tea is a favorite in my family.
  • Make minty moon cubes. Make an 8-hour cold infusion of 1 teaspoon Peppermint leaves in 8oz Moon Water. Pour into ice cube trays (these sphere ones are fun!) and freeze. Add to iced tea or any chilled drink for a little extra something!
  • Make an energy cleansing room spray. Combine Moon Water with a small amount of Frankincense or Sage hydrosol in a spray bottle. Spritz throughout your home, especially around doors and windows.
  • Wash your crystals. If you have water-safe crystals, like quartz, use extra Moon Water to give them a bath.
  • Use in your diffuser. Use the extra Moon Water in your ultrasonic diffuser along with an energy cleaning essential oil blend, like this one or this one!

Moon Water is a beautiful way to connect with the powerful energy of the Universe every single day. The simple mindful ritual helps to support my mental energy. I hope you find as much joy and inspiration in it as I do.

Love, Chris
