A Scentsational Halloween Essential Oil Blend
For the past few weeks, I’ve been working on Halloween essential oil blends. I’ve come up with a lot of beautiful blends, but none that gave me Halloween feels. I was stumped. But inspiration comes in all types of packages…or baskets!

A Halloween Momster Inspiration
I was about ready to throw in the towel. And then along comes my daughter’s bestie with a Boo Basket in hand. In the basket was a glass with “Momster” etched on it.
As soon as I saw the Momster glass, I was inspired! I knew my selection of Halloween essential oils should represent me. So, I chose some of my favorites to create an essential oil blend that’s spicy, sweet, and fresh. Me..me…me… Yep, that’s pretty much me in a bottle!
⭐️The Momster In the Closet Blend
- 3 drops Pink Pepper essential oil (Schinus molle)
- 2 drops Black Pepper essential oil (Piper nigrum)
- 2 drops Tangerine essential oil (Citrus reticulata)
- 2 drops Hemlock essential oil (Tsuga canadensis)
- 1 drop distilled Ginger essential oil (Zingiber officinale)

Trick? Or Treat? No tricks here. This Halloween essential oil blend is 100% energetic treats!
But it’s not just a Fall scent! Make a stock bottle to put into your collection of energy purifying, restorative essential oil blends. Diffuse anytime you need a positive thinking boost!
🧡Get the Stock Bottle Drop Counts
Here are the drop counts for a 5ml essential oil bottle. This will hold about 100 drops of essential oil (depending on the viscosity of the oil and the size of the reducer orifice).
Add your drops directly to the essential oil bottle. Then insert the reducer and cap tightly. Finally roll the bottle between the palms of your hands for at least 30 seconds. This allows the oils to fully blend with each other and it imparts a bit of your energy to the blend.
And remember: Affix a label right away!
The Momster in the Closet Stock Bottle

- 20 drops Black Pepper essential oil (Piper nigrum)
- 20 drops Tangerine essential oil (Citrus reticulata)
- 20 drops Hemlock essential oil (Tsuga canadensis)
- 10 drops distilled Ginger essential oil (Zingiber officinale)
Feel free to adjust the oils to make this blend of Halloween essential oils your very own Seasonal Scent! I’d love to hear about any adjustments you make.
Why These Halloween Essential Oils?
I am a huge fan of peppery essential oils, so this aroma is at the forefront of the blend.
I grew up in Hawai’i eating sweet tart tangerines by the dozen from a tree in our backyard. Tangerine had to be included.
I’m a Ginger, so how could I not include Ginger essential oil?!
And, well, it is after all a Halloween essential oil blend, so Hemlock seemed a logical choice.
And why Momster In the Closet? Why not Under the Bed or Outside the Window? It all goes back to my youngest daughter always asking me to please close her closet door “all the way” when I would tuck her in at night. It couldn’t be any place other than the Closet!

Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis)
So, first things first, the hemlock distilled to make the essential oil is an entirely different genus than the poison hemlock of literary fame. That one is Conium maculatum, a white flowered member of the carrot family. This one is Tsuga canadensis, also called Eastern Hemlock. A member of the pine family, Hemlock is a tall, naturally conical evergreen, with shiny green leaves and tiny cones.
Hemlock essential oil has a fresh pine forest aroma. It reminds me of the fragrance of the air on early Fall mornings in the Pacific Northwest—a true Fall scent. I can’t help but stop to take a deep breath.
Energetically, Hemlock is uplifting, cleansing, and restorative. [Definitely not the hemlock of Socrates or Shakespeare lore!]

Fire Burn and Caldron Bubble!“

Ginger (Zingiber officinale)
Distilled Ginger essential oil is warm, and the perfect combination of spicy and sweet. The candied ginger aroma of distilled Ginger seems more fitting to a Halloween essential oil blend, than the fresh-cut ginger aroma of Ginger CO2.
Ginger is energetically uplifting and stimulating. Its warm, familiar aroma eases tension and inspires confidence.
Pink Pepper (Schinus molle)
Pink Pepper is my favorite “peppery” essential oil. A complex aroma, it has the warm dryness of Black Pepper, but with a fruity, somewhat floral, note. This sweet fruitiness is enhanced by the juicy aroma of the Tangerine. [Pink Pepper and Tangerine is a favorite base pair.]
Energetically, Pink Pepper promotes patience and self-acceptance—great for perfectionism. It’s an invigorating, cleansing oil that can help ease stress.
Black Pepper (Piper nigrum)
Black Pepper essential oil has a warm, dry, spicy aroma. It brings together the floral fruity Pink Pepper and the spicy Ginger.
As fresh cracked black pepper enhances flavor in a culinary dish, Black Pepper enhances the aroma and energetics of the Momster Halloween essential oil blend.
Energetically, Black Pepper relaxes rigid thinking and expands the spirit.
Tangerine (Citrus reticulata)
Juicy and sweet with just a touch of tartness, Tangerine is definitely a “happy maker!” This upbeat citrus has more sparkling aroma than Sweet Orange or Mandarin essential oils, although both would be lovely substitutes.
Energetically Tangerine is uplifting to the spirit and calming to the mind. It shines a little light into darker days that can dampen mood.
Altogether, this Halloween essential oil blend is purifying, enhances positivity, and restores energy.
So, go ahead, let the Momster out of the closet—I promise, no tricks and all treats!
