Fabulous Fall Scents for Diffusion

There’s something special about the aroma of the air in Fall. Here in the Pacific Northwest, the air smells of rain, damp fallen leaves, and evergreens. That’s outside. Inside, I like to energize the overcast days or create evening coziness with some classic Fall scents. My favorite essential oils are the Conifers, Clove bud, Cardamom, Ginger, Nutmeg, the Cinnamons, Juniper Berry, Frankincense, and always the Citruses.

More than just Fall scents, these essential oils are uplifting and cleansing to the spirits. And they’re also excellent air purifiers to help combat all those nasty airborne seasonal cold germs.

Autumn Spice Diffuser Blend

This is the classic combination of Fall scents, rich in spices and citrus. Warm and sweet with a bit of zing, Autumn Spice is a blend I diffuse regularly between September and December.

• 4 drops Sweet Orange (Citrus x sinensis)
• 2 drops Clove Bud (Eugenia caryophyllata/Syzygium aromaticum)
• 2 drops Cinnamon bark (Cinnamomum cassia/C. zeylanicum)
• 1 drop Ginger CO2 (Zingiber officinale)
• 1 drop Copaiba Balsam (Copaifera officinalis/C. langsdorffii)

🧡Ginger Options: for a sweeter aroma, distilled Ginger essential oil can be used in place of the spicier Ginger CO2.

The PSL Diffuser Blend

One of the most iconic flavors of the season is pumpkin spice! The PSL diffuser blend is magical, reflecting the entire spirit of that first sip of Autumn. The combination of spicy, sweet, and comforting Fall scents instantly transports you to your favorite cozy spot.

• 3 drops Sweet Orange (Citrus x sinensis)
• 2 drops Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans)
• 1 drop Clove Bud (Syzygium aromaticum / Eugenia caryophyllata)

Autumn Calm Diffuser Blend

Autumn is a time of transition, a season that invites us to slow down, reflect, reach for a sense of balance and tranquility. In the Golden Hour reach for Autumn Calm.

• 4 drops Blood Orange (Citrus x sinensis sanguinelli)
• 2 drops Ho Wood (Cinnamomum camphor ct linalool)
• 2 drops Virginian Cedarwood (Juniperus virginiana)

Summer Memories Diffuser Blend

Summer Memories, created for a citrus-loving friend, has a warm comforting aroma. The single drop of Turmeric gives it a touch of smokiness to create a blend that brings to mind Summer gatherings around a campfire.

• 4 drops Pink Grapefruit (Citrus x paradisi)
• 2 drops Sweet Orange (Citrus x sinensis)
• 2 drops Bergamot (Citrus bergamia)
• 1 drop distilled Lime (Citrus x aurantifolia)
• 1 drop distilled Turmeric (Curcuma longa)

Who says Fall scents can’t evoke Summer Memories? This blend is uplifting yet grounding, helps ease tension, and can activate stagnant energy. Diffuse when feeling stressed and in need of emotional support.

🧡Turmeric Options: Distilled Turmeric essential oil captures a smokiness in its aroma and is my preference for this blend. Turmeric CO2 has a spicier, earthy aroma.

🧡For Fall Scents Enhancement add ONE of the following Conifer essential oils:

• 1-2 drops Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) OR
• 1-2 drops Balsam Fir (Abies balsamea)

Momster in the Closet Diffuser Blend

This blend, inspired by the Momster glass shown here, is so much more than a Fall scent. Its fresh, peppery energy makes it a diffuser blend for all seasons!

• 3 drops Pink Pepper (Schinus molle)
• 2 drops Black Pepper (Piper nigrum)
• 2 drops Tangerine (Citrus reticulata)
• 2 drops Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis)
• 1 drop distilled Ginger (Zingiber officinale)

Momster is uplifting to the spirits and has a purifying restorative energy. Diffuse to boost positive energy and cleanse the air.

🧡Substitutes: Because some of these are unusual essential oils, here are substitution options—keep in mind that substitutions change aroma and energetics.

• For Hemlock, Black Spruce (Picea mariana) is a good substitute.
• To substitute Tangerine, use Sweet Orange (Citrus x sinensis).
• Ginger also comes in a Ginger CO2 which has a more spicy aroma than distilled Ginger.

FrankinShine Diffuser Blend

This blend is, ultimately, all about Frankincense. FrankinShine combines three species of Frankincense essential oil. It also has a touch of sweet citrus and resinous wood to accent those beautiful notes in the Frankincense. While this is a lovely blend for Fall and Winter, it’s really a blend for all seasons. (Honestly, I just wanted to make a blend called FrankinShine near Halloween!)

• 3 drops Frankincense Carteri (Boswellia carteri)
• 2 drops Frankincense Frereana (Boswellia frereana)
• 2 drops Frankincense Sacra (Boswellia sacra)
• 1 drop Blood Orange (Citrus x sinensis sanguinelli)
• 1 drop Atlas Cedarwood (Cedrus atlantica)

Three Witches Elixir

The Three Witches Elixir was inspired by a tiny statue of three sweet-looking sister witches with their arms around each other. Through the day I couldn’t get the image out of my mind, so I conjured a tale about them and the elixir they made:

• 3 drops Juniper Berry (Juniperus communis)
• 2 drops Cinnamon Leaf (Cinnamomum verum)
• 1 drop Blood Orange (Citrus x sinensis sanguinelli)
• 1 drop Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin)
• 1 drop Sandalwood (Santalum spp.)

🧡Substitutes: Please keep in mind that substitutions will change the original aroma and therapeutics.

• To substitute Blood Orange, use Sweet Orange (Citrus x sinensis).
• Patchouli and Sandalwood are both very powerful base aromas, which is why this blend incorporates just a single drop of each. However, if you don’t have these in your collection, or would like to try different essential oils, try Balsam Copaiba (Copaifera officinalis / C. langsdorffii) or Atlas Cedarwood (Cedrus atlantica).
